Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to multiple foreign media reports on the 28th, Sri Lanka has been hit by floods and landslides due to continuous torrential rains, resulting in a death toll of 56, with 21 people missing and 14 injured.

Sri Lanka began experiencing severe weather last week. AFP, citing the country's Disaster Management Center, reported that all regions of Sri Lanka received rainfall in the past 24 hours, with some areas receiving up to 360 millimeters.

Currently, landslides and floods have damaged nearly 700 homes, and nearly 1,800 families have been evacuated to temporary shelters.

According to the Associated Press, the torrential rains have flooded houses, fields, and roads, and triggered landslides across Sri Lanka. As the weather conditions worsened, the Sri Lankan government announced the closure of all government offices and schools on the 28th.

According to The New York Times, weather forecast maps released earlier on the 28th by the country's meteorological department showed that almost all parts of the country would face heavy rainfall, with most areas also expected to experience strong winds.

According to AFP, Sri Lanka relies on monsoon rainfall for irrigation and hydroelectric power. However, experts warn that the country will experience more frequent floods due to climate change. In June 2003, the country suffered its worst floods of the century, resulting in 254 deaths. (End)
