Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The British government announced on the 21st that it is collaborating with India to launch a visa fraud prevention operation in Tamil Nadu, southern India, expanding the coverage of visa fraud prevention efforts in India and tackling illegal immigration at its source.
According to British media reports, visa fraud in India has become large-scale and interconnected, directly impacting UK border management. In fact, in February 2025, an Indian citizen attempted to enter the UK with a forged work visa; such cases are not isolated incidents.
Previously, the UK and India had conducted a pilot program for visa fraud prevention in Punjab, northern India, which yielded positive results after a period of implementation, laying the foundation for expanding the scope of prevention. The new operation launched in Tamil Nadu focuses on areas prone to visa fraud, introducing several preventative measures, including targeted public awareness campaigns in high-risk areas to educate the public on proper visa application procedures and fraud identification techniques, raising local public awareness; and the simultaneous launch of a Tamil-language instant messaging robot to provide consultation channels, help the public quickly identify visa fraud, avoid traps set by illegal intermediaries, and reduce illegal immigration due to fake visas. The British government stated that this expanded visa fraud prevention operation is an important component of the country's overall border security efforts, with the core objective of curbing illegal immigration at its source and maintaining border management order.
Previously, the UK Home Office had introduced a reform plan for the asylum system, focusing on addressing abuses, cracking down on illegal immigration-related activities, and imposing sanctions on those involved in trafficking vulnerable groups to the UK.
The British government stated that this joint UK-India visa fraud prevention operation is also an important manifestation of the deepening cooperation between the two countries. Based on previously reached cooperation agreements, both sides will continue to work together to combat organized crime activities related to visa fraud, reduce irregular immigration, and jointly strengthen border security.
