Southeast Asia Information Harbor (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Philippines recently successfully detected and thwarted several foreign cyberattack attempts aimed at infiltrating intelligence data systems.

At a recent press conference, Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy stated that cyberattacks take many forms, including Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), where hackers use sophisticated techniques and deceptive methods to infiltrate government computer systems.

Uy pointed out that most cyberattack attempts involve foreign powers. To counter this threat, the Philippine government is strengthening international cooperation through diplomatic channels and sharing intelligence with the military and other countries to identify potential threats and enhance defense capabilities.

He also emphasized that, to date, no cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure have been detected in the Philippines. Last year, Philippine law enforcement successfully thwarted an attempt by a foreign hacking group to infiltrate the Philippine presidential website and government email systems.

In addition to cyberattacks, Secretary Uy also warned that the spread of deepfake technology and fake news is increasing and could be used to manipulate public opinion, influencing the upcoming Philippine midterm elections in May. (over)
