Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On August 7, Philippine police stated that a small dump truck carrying 22 people plunged into a ravine in Sultan Kudarat province in the southern Philippines, resulting in 8 deaths and 15 injuries.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of August 6 local time, when the small dump truck was traveling down a bend on the Lebak Highway. Police stated that the truck's brakes failed, causing it to lose control, crash into concrete debris from road construction, and then plunge into the ravine.

The injured have been taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Despite traffic safety hazards, the use of dump trucks to transport people remains quite common in many rural areas of the Philippines. (End)
