Every year during the pagoda festival, which runs from the fifth full moon of Tha Bodwe to the first day of the Burmese New Year, pilgrims and tourists from all over the country flock to the town, both to worship and pray, and to purchase local specialties as souvenirs, creating strong consumer demand.
