The global trade friction index will remain at a high level in December 2025.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) held a regular press conference on the 28th. At the conference, CCPIT spokesperson Wang Wenshuai released the Global Trade Friction Index for December 2025.

  Wang Wenshuai pointed out that, from a comprehensive index perspective, the global trade friction index for December was 104, remaining at a high level. The amount involved in global trade friction measures decreased by 4.6% year-on-year but increased by 6.3% month-on-month.

  From a country-specific index perspective, among the 20 countries (regions) monitored, the United States, the European Union, and India ranked in the top three in terms of global trade friction index, with the United States involving the largest amount of global trade friction measures.

  From an industry index perspective, among the 13 major industries monitored, the points of conflict in trade friction measures were concentrated in the electronics, pharmaceutical, machinery and equipment, non-ferrous metals, and transportation equipment industries, with the electronics industry having the highest trade friction index.

  Looking at the sub-indices, the 20 countries (regions) monitored issued 29 import and export tariff measures, initiated 20 trade remedy investigations, submitted 117 notifications of technical barriers to trade (TBT) and sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS) to the WTO, issued 33 import and export restriction measures, and issued 264 other restrictive measures. Among these, the import and export restriction measures index ranked first among the five sub-indices.

  Regarding trade frictions involving China, the trade friction index for 19 countries (regions) was 106, indicating a high level. The United States had the highest trade friction index, with industries such as chips, satellite antennas, and lithium-ion batteries also showing high levels of trade friction indices. The total value of trade friction measures involving China by these 19 countries (regions) decreased by 18.4% year-on-year and increased by 9.9% month-on-month.
