Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On July 7th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China announced that it, together with the State Administration for Market Regulation, recently jointly released three national water pollutant discharge standards for food processing and manufacturing, slaughtering and meat processing, and alcoholic beverage manufacturing. These standards aim to strengthen emission control in these industries and improve environmental risk prevention and control.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the State Administration for Market Regulation recently jointly released the "Water Pollutant Discharge Standard for Food Processing Manufacturing" (GB46817-2025) (hereinafter referred to as the "Food Standard"), the "Water Pollutant Discharge Standard for Slaughtering and Meat Processing Industry" (GB13457-2025) (hereinafter referred to as the "Slaughter Standard"), and the "Water Pollutant Discharge Standard for Alcoholic Beverage Manufacturing Industry" (GB19821-2025) (hereinafter referred to as the "Alcoholic Beverage Standard").

The food processing and manufacturing industry, the slaughtering and meat processing industry, and the alcoholic beverage manufacturing industry are all important basic industries related to the national economy and people's livelihood. With the increasing requirements for water environment management, the problems in implementing the current standards in these three industries have become increasingly prominent. Some industries lack baseline discharge volumes or use inefficient methods, and indirect emission control requirements lag behind actual needs.

An official from the Water Ecological Environment Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment stated that the standards precisely set benchmark discharge volumes per unit product for sub-sectors with large wastewater discharges, achieving differentiated management and promoting refined pollution control in the industry. The "Alcoholic Beverage Standards" stipulate eight control items, including two additional control items for beer manufacturing: total nitrogen and color. For rice wine, wine, and other alcoholic beverage manufacturing, total nitrogen control is added. These new indicators will further strengthen source control of eutrophication in water bodies, prevent aquatic ecological risks, and improve the industry's pollution control level. (End)
