Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the evening of the 1st, the first shipment of Chilean cherries imported to northern my country for the 2025-2026 season successfully berthed at Tianjin Port's Pacific International Container Terminal aboard the vessel "Zin Iberia".
As a "star product" among imported winter fruits, Chilean cherries are highly favored by the market for their plump flesh and sweet-sour taste, with freshness being the core of their quality. "Cherries have extremely high requirements for customs clearance timeliness; every extra hour of delay can compromise quality," explained Meng Zhaoran, head of the Inspection Section 1 of Tianjin Dongjiang Customs. To address this, Tianjin Dongjiang Customs innovatively launched a "people waiting for containers" supervision model, enabling declarations and document review in advance before the vessel docks, ensuring "immediate arrival, immediate inspection, and immediate release" upon arrival. Simultaneously, relying on the port's intelligent control system, customs and terminal operation systems can automatically link and compare data, further improving customs clearance efficiency.
Efficient customs clearance accelerates market supply. After being distributed through Tianjin Port, this batch of cherries can be delivered to major wholesale markets in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region within 5 hours, and cover northern regions such as Northeast, Central, and Northwest China within 30 hours. At markets like Tianjin Haijixing and Beijing Xinfadi, buyers are scrambling to stock up, and e-commerce platforms are simultaneously launching pre-sale links, making these bright red, plump cherries available to households at more affordable prices.
To ensure the safe and efficient entry of cherry transport vessels into port and to maintain the freshness of the fruit, Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration has implemented a "refined dynamic vessel timetable." This involves comprehensively analyzing dynamic factors such as weather warnings, traffic conditions, and port operation progress, and through meticulous scheduling and plan approval management, minimizing vessel waiting time. Simultaneously, remote pre-approval and one-on-one remote application services are provided, and a "green channel" for vessel entry and exit port approvals is established for expedited processing.
It is reported that in 2025, the Tianjin Dongjiang Border Inspection Station ensured the smooth entry and exit of over 1,700 cargo ships, including nearly 30 ships carrying fresh produce such as cherries, bananas, and blueberries from South America. To effectively support the cherry-dedicated transport route, the Dongjiang Border Inspection Station, recognizing the high storage costs and freshness requirements of bulk fresh agricultural products like cherries, adhered to a "one ship, one policy" approach, developing contingency plans in advance, opening "green channels," optimizing the customs clearance environment, shortening ship clearance time, and reducing ship operating costs.
This season, Tianjin Port is expected to unload four ships carrying Chilean cherries, totaling over 30,000 tons, continuously enriching the supply in the northern market. (End)
