It is projected that the Qiongzhou Strait's cross-strait transport capacity during the 2026 Spring Festival travel season will increase by 5% compared to 2025.
The press conference also introduced that, in response to the rapidly growing demand for new energy vehicles crossing the strait, dedicated transport vessels such as "Luyuan No. 1" and "Luyuan No. 2" were put into operation during the 2025 Spring Festival travel season. Two more deck cargo ships, "Luyuan No. 6" and "Luyuan No. 9," will be added to the fleet before the 2026 Spring Festival travel season. During the 2026 Spring Festival travel season, the daily transport capacity for new energy vehicles will increase from an average of 3,500 vehicles last year to 5,000 vehicles.
It is reported that during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush, the Qiongzhou Strait passenger and vehicle ferry service plans to deploy 57 passenger and vehicle ferry ships and 4 deck cargo ships carrying new energy vehicles. Among them, the routes from Xinhai Port to Xuwen Port and from Xiuying Port to Haian New Port are planned to have a total of 10,800 voyages.
In addition, the railway ferry route will operate 32 voyages daily, with an overall daily departure capacity of 350 voyages during the Spring Festival travel rush, which can basically meet the peak daily demand of 42,000 vehicles crossing the sea. It is expected that the Qiongzhou Strait cross-sea transport capacity during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush will increase by 5% compared to 2025.
It is worth noting that during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush, the advance booking period for Qiongzhou Strait passenger and vehicle ferry tickets is 15 days for arrival on the island and 30 days for departure. Passengers can purchase round-trip tickets upon arrival on the island, facilitating reasonable travel planning and off-peak travel.
The Pearl River Navigation Administration has revised the "Emergency Response Mechanism for Passenger and Vehicle Congestion in the Qiongzhou Strait (Trial Implementation)," adding procedures for responding to severe weather and clarifying measures for information dissemination regarding suspension and resumption of services, emergency transport organization, vessel evacuation, and port control. These revisions aim to alleviate congestion caused by severe weather and provide a solid guarantee for the safe and smooth operation of this vital transportation artery across the Qiongzhou Strait.
