According to Vietnam's Tien Phong newspaper, sales of new electric motorcycles in Vietnam increased by nearly 100% year-on-year in the first half of 2025.
According to Motorcycles Data, the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market experienced a leap in growth in the first half of 2025, with sales reaching approximately 209,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 99.2%.
This achievement makes Vietnam the world's third-largest consumer market for electric motorcycles. Currently, China is the leading country in this sector, with sales exceeding 3.2 million units, followed by India with 657,000 units.
Furthermore, according to Motorcycles Data, L1 electric motorcycles (engines under 50cc) saw strong growth in Vietnam, with sales surging by 112.6% in the first half of 2025. These are small-displacement vehicles that do not require a driver's license, targeting university and high school students, and offering advantages such as convenience and low operating costs.
Not only has the purchasing power for electric motorcycles increased, but sales of traditional gasoline-powered motorcycles have also grown. According to statistics from member companies of the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (VAMM), Vietnamese consumers purchased 1,284,291 motorcycles in the first half of 2025, a 6.4% increase compared to 1,206,872 motorcycles in the same period of 2024.
Currently, the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market is mainly dominated by Vietnamese and Chinese brands. Statistics show that VinFast's electric motorcycle sales accounted for over 55% of its total sales in the first six months of this year. This means that the Vietnamese manufacturer's electric motorcycle sales exceeded the combined sales of all its other competitors. (End)
