The conference aimed to further enhance the brand influence of Ningde large yellow croaker and promote the high-quality development of the entire large yellow croaker industry chain.
It is understood that this conference, with "Innovation, Development, Quality, and Brand" as its core objectives, is based on the trend of high-quality development of the marine economy. It aims to comprehensively help the Ningde large yellow croaker brand break through geographical limitations and steadily move towards the strategic direction of "going beyond Ningde, going beyond China, and going global" through a series of innovative measures and diverse activities.
"The Industry Innovation and Development Conference is a window for communication and a bridge for cooperation," said Zheng Zhonghui, Vice Mayor of Ningde City. He explained that this conference is not only a concentrated display of the achievements of Ningde's large yellow croaker industry development but also an important opportunity to promote the deep integration of fishing, culture, and tourism, and expand the space for industrial development.
At the launch ceremony, research achievements in the large yellow croaker industry were released, including rapid on-site detection of trypanosomes in large yellow croaker, creation technology for new deep-sea aquaculture strains of large yellow croaker, and key technologies and applications for quality control and high-value utilization of farmed large yellow croaker. Six science and technology cooperation agreements, three industry cooperation agreements, and two bank-enterprise cooperation agreements were signed, injecting new momentum into the large yellow croaker industry.
"Currently, Fujian is deeply cultivating its marine resources and planning its '15th Five-Year Plan' development. The large yellow croaker industry is facing policy and market opportunities, but also challenges in transformation and quality improvement, urgently requiring the support of scientific research," said Zhu Hong, a second-level inspector of the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries. She added that the conference yielded fruitful results and provided a high-quality platform, which will effectively solidify the foundation for industrial innovation and deepen win-win cooperation.
It is understood that this Large Yellow Croaker Industry Innovation and Development Conference encompassed both offline and online components. The offline component, the core of this event, includes a launch ceremony and a series of activities centered around the "National Fish" IP, such as a tasting event for 10,000 customers, a sales promotion for large yellow croaker, a national fish cooking innovation competition, a Min-Dong specialty food carnival, and a Ning-Tai youth trendy culture and music festival. These activities deeply integrate industry display, consumption promotion, and cultural exchange. The online component focuses on brand communication and production-sales matching, launching a month-long campaign starting November 1st featuring 1,000 e-commerce platforms promoting national fish, influencer support activities, and sales events on major e-commerce platforms, comprehensively revitalizing the industry.
Large yellow croaker, also known as cucumber croaker, has a golden body, bright red lips, and white, tender flesh, and is rich in nutrients. Eight out of every ten large yellow croakers on Chinese tables come from Ningde City, which has become a core base for the supply, breeding, processing, sales, and brand operation of large yellow croaker in China, earning it the title of "Capital of Large Yellow Croaker in China."
In recent years, Ningde City has continuously implemented the "National Fish Plan," steadily advancing the entire chain of the large yellow croaker industry—from seedlings and aquaculture to processing, markets, and branding—through measures such as promoting seed industry revitalization, developing ecological aquaculture, expanding processing and distribution, and increasing publicity and promotion. In 2024, Ningde City's large yellow croaker production reached 214,900 tons, accounting for approximately 80% of the national total, with the entire industry chain's output value exceeding 20 billion yuan. Currently, the city's large yellow croaker industry has formed a coordinated development pattern of "Fuding seed industry support, Xiapu leading scale, and Jiaocheng complete chain."
According to Li Shengli, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Fisheries Association, the regional brand influence of Ningde large yellow croaker extends throughout the country and even globally, becoming not only a "wealth-generating fish" and "revitalization fish" that drives income growth and contributes to rural revitalization, but also a "golden name card" showcasing the high-quality development level of China's fisheries.
Xiapu County, the host of this conference, boasts unique marine resources, making it an ideal place for the growth and reproduction of large yellow croaker. In recent years, the large yellow croaker industry chain in the county has been continuously improved. Processing enterprises have innovated and introduced new products, e-commerce platforms have expanded sales channels, and logistics upgrades have helped large yellow croaker products reach consumers quickly. The large yellow croaker industry is developing vigorously towards high quality and sustainability.
