China's first nuclear power plant using a cooling tower, the "Hualong One," has officially begun construction.

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Today (November 18, 2025), the first concrete pour for the nuclear island of CGN Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, China's first nuclear power plant using a cooling tower, known as the "Hualong One," was successfully completed, marking the full commencement of construction on the Shandong Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Base.

  The "Hualong One" is my country's independently developed third-generation nuclear power technology and currently boasts the largest number of operating and under-construction nuclear power units globally. The unit that broke ground today is Unit 1 of Phase I of the Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Project. The entire Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Project is planned to have six Hualong One nuclear power units, with a total installed capacity of approximately 7.2 million kilowatts. Upon completion, it will be able to meet the annual electricity needs of 5 million people.
