China-Laos Railway cargo volume exceeds 70 million tons

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd. announced to the media on the 29th that since the China-Laos Railway opened in December 2021, as of October 28th this year, it has operated 63,000 freight trains, transporting over 70 million tons of goods, including 16 million tons of cross-border freight, radiating to 19 countries and regions.

  In the nearly four years since its opening, the China-Laos Railway has gradually replaced road transport as the main mode of transportation along its route. Statistics show that 50% of freight traffic has shifted from road to rail. Land transport prices between Vientiane, Laos and Kunming, Yunnan have decreased by 40% to 50%, freight costs from Kunming to Thailand via Laos have decreased by 30% to 50%, and domestic logistics costs in Laos have also decreased by 20% to 40%.

  Since the beginning of this year, the China-Laos Railway has seen significant growth in both freight volume and cross-border freight volume. The cumulative freight volume has reached 19.88 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 25%, of which 4.47 million tons are cross-border freight, a year-on-year increase of 12.7%. China's exports grew by 400,000 tons, with the largest increases primarily in vegetables, fertilizers, and steel, which saw increases of 45%, 71%, and 26.6%, respectively. China's imports were primarily driven by Southeast Asian fruit and food, with 50,000 tons of fruit and 100,000 tons of food, representing increases of 35% and 67%, respectively. (End)
