Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) reports that, according to statistics from the Champasak Provincial Government of Laos, the province's tourism industry experienced a strong recovery in 2025, receiving 728,064 tourists and generating tourism revenue exceeding US$94 million, demonstrating continued vitality in the tourism market.
Specifically, in 2025, the tourist composition included 286,941 domestic tourists, 133,809 cross-border tourists, and 307,314 foreign tourists, representing an 11.24% increase compared to 2024. This impressive achievement coincides with a crucial juncture in Champasak Province's implementation of its tenth socio-economic development plan (2026-2030), which, guided by green and sustainable development, aims to build an independent regional economy.
According to the plan, Champasak Province has designated tourism as a core driver of economic growth, focusing on four key tourism sectors: the Four Thousand Islands natural tourism, Wat Phou World Heritage cultural tourism, Bora Veng highland agricultural ecotourism, and Pakse city tourism. To solidify this foundation, the province will simultaneously upgrade infrastructure and improve service quality, focusing on optimizing supporting services such as restaurants and hotels, and enriching the supply of tourism products.
New and upgraded key attractions include: the million-year-old volcanic landscape of the Bora Veng highlands, eco-friendly scenic dining areas, Mekong River cruise routes, and waterfall sightseeing and Mekong River-themed experience projects in Pakse and Khong districts. As a popular tourist destination in southern Laos, Champasak Province is renowned for its diverse landscapes, natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and unique water tourism resources. This plan, focusing on sustainable tourism development, is expected to further enhance its attractiveness to domestic and international tourists and promote sustained high-quality growth in the tourism industry.
