Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the afternoon of May 1st, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a ceremony at Nha Trang Port in Khanh Hoa Province to welcome the Russian research vessel "Academician Oparin," officially launching a joint research expedition in 2025. This is an activity carried out under the framework of the "Roadmap for Marine Research Cooperation 2018-2025" between VAST and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
This activity marks the beginning of the ninth joint marine expedition between the two academies, which will take place in Vietnamese waters from May 1st to May 25th.
The "Academician Oparin," used for this expedition, is one of the Russian Federation's research vessels specifically designed for biochemical and biodiversity research, attracting 30 Russian and Vietnamese scientists. The expedition aims to update and supplement data on biodiversity, environmental quality, and marine biological resources, while collecting marine biological and environmental samples to support biochemical and microbiological research and assess the potential of bioactive compounds in marine organisms. The results of the expedition are expected to be announced on May 27 at a symposium held at the Institute of Oceanography, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Associate Professor Dao Viet Ha, Director of the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, stated that since 2005, the institute has had the honor of welcoming the "Academician Opalin" to Nha Trang Port five times, initiating joint marine expeditions between the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences. This is also the fifth time the institute has been commissioned by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to lead this important marine expedition. In recent years, the institute's leadership has highly praised the achievements and significance of previous joint expeditions.
This expedition coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia (1950–2025), vividly demonstrating the traditional friendship between the two countries and their comprehensive cooperation in science and technology, particularly in marine research and natural resource conservation.
