Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On February 13th, Zheng Wei, Chairman of the Ningde City Calligraphers Association in Fujian Province, and his delegation visited news media outlets, writing Spring Festival couplets and the character "福" (Fu, meaning good fortune) to extend New Year's greetings.
"A single sheet of paper reflects the world's changing fortunes; a thousand years of history are written in the annals of the nation," "The mighty spring breeze promotes righteousness; galloping horses herald the auspicious year," "Pursuing dreams of good fortune brings the dragon's momentum; vying for spring invigorates the spirit of the horse"... On-site, calligraphers used ink and brush to create a series of auspicious and powerful Spring Festival couplets and "福" characters, filled with a strong festive atmosphere.
Entering communities, schools, enterprises, public rental housing, and New Era Civilization Practice Stations… Since January 31st, calligraphers from the Ningde City Calligraphers Association have been tirelessly engaged in over 30 volunteer service activities as part of the “Strengthening the Foundation Project 2026 Spring Festival Special Action” and the “Our Festival: Spring Festival” free calligraphy series, distributing over 6,000 Spring Festival couplets and “Fu” (good fortune) characters, bringing New Year's blessings to every corner of the grassroots.
At Fujian Liande Enterprise Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese-invested enterprise, Zheng Wei presented Spring Festival couplets brimming with blessings to Taiwanese compatriots and businesses, infusing the strong festive atmosphere and sincere wishes into his calligraphy, allowing the Taiwanese compatriots present to feel the warmth of “one family across the Taiwan Strait.”
At Dongqiao South Bank Park, more than ten calligraphers wielded their brushes, and auspicious Spring Festival couplets such as “A galloping horse travels a thousand miles, may the New Year bring even greater success” appeared on red paper. Citizens orderly received their “exclusive blessings” imbued with the fragrance of ink, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Ms. Chen, a local resident, said she looks forward to calligraphers delivering Spring Festival couplets every year. Handwritten couplets are much warmer than printed ones; pasted on the door, they are not only festive but also convey heartfelt hopes for the New Year.
On the first day of the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush, the Ningde Railway Station was bustling with orderly and warm crowds. A cultural event themed "The Road Home is the Most Beautiful Scenery" was held simultaneously. Volunteers from the Ningde Calligraphers Association wrote Spring Festival couplets and the character "福" (Fu, meaning good fortune), giving them to travelers and adding a vibrant festive atmosphere to their journeys.
Mr. Lin, a traveler, received a "福" character from a volunteer and remarked, "I work away from home year-round and rush through the Spring Festival travel rush every year. Receiving this handwritten couplet at the railway station warmed my heart instantly, filling me with the festive spirit. Carrying this blessing from Ningde home makes the journey even more meaningful."
Spring Festival couplets are a common traditional decoration during the Chinese New Year, usually used to express wishes, ward off evil spirits, and pray for peace. As a form of folk culture, Spring Festival couplets convey people's aspirations for a better life through concise and meaningful text, while also reflecting the changes of the times and social development.
Zheng Wei stated that using calligraphy as a bridge to deliver New Year's blessings to the people and to spread the charm of calligraphy art to the grassroots level is not only to create a joyful, peaceful, and festive atmosphere for the Spring Festival, but also to inherit and promote excellent traditional Chinese culture, allowing more people to understand and love calligraphy art, and enabling this traditional treasure to radiate new vitality in the new era.
The Ningde City Calligraphers Association was established in May 1995 and has 889 members at the city level or above, including 21 national-level members and 325 provincial-level members. It is dedicated to promoting the development, inheritance, and dissemination of calligraphy art. In the past year, the Ningde City Calligraphers Association has held nearly 80 themed activities, including calligraphy workshops, special lectures, and calligraphy exhibitions. (End)
