Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Lao Prime Minister Somsay Siphandone, at a special meeting held on April 7th, clearly outlined plans and called on all parties to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the series of activities for the 2027 Laos-China Tourism Year, the 2029 Laos Tourism Year, and the 2030 Laos-Vietnam Tourism Year. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on developing distinctive tourism products as the core attraction, while simultaneously strengthening security measures and optimizing service guarantees, thus promoting tourism as a key driver of national economic growth.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Somsay urged the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to take the lead in establishing a close coordination mechanism with relevant departments, clearly defining the responsibilities of the public and private sectors, and the central and local governments, to ensure efficient coordination and implementation of all tasks. He pointed out that the three tourism years' activities need to be both innovative and unique, deeply exploring and showcasing the regional characteristics and cultural features of different ethnic groups in Laos, avoiding homogenization; he also stressed the importance of early promotion, requiring the use of diverse channels to generate buzz in advance, enhance international attention to the activities, and attract more tourists to Laos.

In response to the upgrading of the tourism industry, the Prime Minister put forward several key requirements: First, focus on Laos' World Heritage resources, using high-quality cultural attractions as a vehicle to further enhance Laos's position and reputation in the international tourism market; second, adhere to the concept of sustainable development, promote the deep integration of cultural elements with the tourism industry, shifting from "single protection" of cultural resources to "experiential promotion," creating tangible and consumable cultural tourism products, and encouraging local communities to actively participate in industrial development and share the benefits of tourism; third, prioritize safety in tourism management, especially for high-risk tourism projects such as rock climbing, ziplining, hot air ballooning, and powered paragliding, requiring the development of clear and responsible emergency response plans to solidify the safety baseline.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Somsay emphasized the necessity of modernizing tourism infrastructure and services, requiring relevant departments to improve accident reporting systems, multilingual information services, and emergency contact mechanisms to enhance tourists' convenience and sense of security. He also instructed the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to work with relevant departments to target and address bottlenecks hindering the development of the tourism industry, and to promptly submit major matters beyond departmental authority to the government for overall review and resolution. In response to industry malpractices such as "zero-dollar tourism," unlicensed tour guides, and illegal operations, the Prime Minister explicitly demanded that these issues be taken seriously and strictly rectified to effectively safeguard the tourism market order and national interests.

Finally, Prime Minister Somsay called on all parties to thoroughly study practical solutions, leveraging the three major tourism years to fully unleash the potential of Laos' tourism industry, ensure its continued healthy development, and inject strong momentum into the country's economic growth.
