The competition invites enthusiasts worldwide to capture the breathtaking sunrise at Angkor Wat during the spring equinox.
The "Angkor Spring Equinox Sunrise" is a world-renowned astronomical and geographical wonder, occurring twice a year, from the spring equinox (March 21-23) and the autumn equinox (September 21-23). At dawn on the spring equinox, the sun rises precisely above the center of the five spires of Angkor Wat. This spectacular sight not only delivers a powerful visual impact but also showcases the extraordinary achievements of the ancient Khmer people in astronomy, architecture, and religious philosophy.
This competition is open to domestic and international tourists, photography enthusiasts, and the general public. The shooting period is from March 21st to 22nd. Entries must be original short videos shot with a mobile phone, with a length between 1 minute 30 seconds and 2 minutes. The competition will award five prizes to recognize outstanding works that showcase the charm of Angkor and offer creative perspectives. The results will be officially announced on March 26th. The prize money is as follows: First Prize: 2 million riel (approximately US$500); Second Prize: 1.5 million riel (approximately US$375); Third Prize: 1 million riel (approximately US$250); Fourth Prize: 800,000 riel (approximately US$200); Fifth Prize: 600,000 riel (approximately US$150). The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism stated that it hopes to leverage this short video competition and the power of social media to bring Angkor Wat back into the global spotlight, allowing more people to experience the profound cultural heritage of Khmer and the harmonious coexistence of natural wonders and human heritage.
