Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Singapore's international tourist arrivals continued to rebound in February! Data released by the Singapore Tourism Board on Monday, March 16th, shows that the country received 1.5 million international tourists in February, a 9% year-on-year increase. The growth in tourists from mainland China and Taiwan was particularly impressive, with increases exceeding 60% each, becoming the core driving force behind the month's tourist traffic.
Data shows that tourists from mainland China reached 432,000 in February, a year-on-year increase of over 60%, making it Singapore's largest source of tourists that month. The Tourism Board analyzed that this significant growth was mainly due to two factors: firstly, the adjustment of the peak travel period for the Lunar New Year this year; and secondly, the "longest-ever nine-day Lunar New Year holiday in history" in mainland China from February 15th to 23rd, which greatly released the demand for outbound travel.
Besides mainland China, Indonesia and Malaysia ranked second and third in terms of tourist arrivals to Singapore in February, contributing 167,000 and 90,000 tourists respectively.
Taiwanese tourists also showed strong performance: driven by the Lunar New Year holiday, public holidays, and winter school holidays, Singapore received over 55,000 visitors in February, a surge of 65% year-on-year. The Tourism Board added that Singapore Airlines increased its flights to and from Taiwan, and its marketing campaigns in collaboration with online travel agencies further enhanced Singapore's visibility and appeal among Taiwanese tourists.
It is worth noting that although February saw year-on-year growth in visitor numbers, Singapore received a total of 3 million international visitors in the first two months of this year, a slight decrease of 0.3% compared to the same period last year. The overall recovery trend still needs further observation. (End)
