Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 12th National Congress of the Lao National Development Front solemnly opened in Vientiane on Tuesday. The two-day congress, themed "Enhancing the Role of the Lao National Development Front, Strengthening Unity, Consolidating the Strength of the Lao People, and Building an Independent Economy," focuses on reviewing the achievements of the past five years, outlining core tasks for 2026-2030, and electing a new leadership.

Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, and former Presidents Choummaly Sayasone and Bounnhang Vorachith attended the congress. In his opening address, Professor Kikkhamphithong, Chairman of the Lao National Development Front and member of the Politburo, emphasized that the Front's core responsibility is always to safeguard the unity of the people, and through cooperation with Party and state organs, mass organizations, and local governments, it unites people of all ethnic groups to dedicate themselves to the cause of patriotism and national development. The conference revealed significant achievements over the past five years: As of 2025, the country had established 907,542 harmonious families (66.83% coverage), 6,210 harmonious villages (73.91% coverage), and 107 harmonious districts (72.30% coverage), laying a solid foundation for social harmony. Outstanding achievements were also made in overseas Chinese affairs. The Lao People's Democratic League (LFND) rallied patriotic forces through initiatives such as holding its first overseas Lao community conference (2024, with over 200 participants) and connecting with overseas Laos. Last year, over 450 overseas Laos returned to Laos to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Democratic League. Overseas communities also supported the country's development by providing dormitory accommodations and donating teaching equipment. In addition, the Lao National Development Front has raised over 58 billion kip in donations from domestic and international enterprises to help impoverished families and victims of natural disasters; the Unity and Development Fund, jointly established with the Phongsavan Group, has expanded to 25 sub-funds with a total capital exceeding 100 billion kip; and 81 citizen petitions and suggestions have been properly handled over the past five years, effectively responding to the demands of the people.

Over the next five years, the conference has identified six major work directions and 62 key projects, covering areas such as strengthening national unity, promoting traditional virtues, improving public skills and literacy, strengthening moral integrity, improving the organizational structure of the Lao National Development Front, and deepening international cooperation. The conference will also review and approve the draft political report, the "Lao National Development Front 2026-2030 Development Plan," and the conference charter, and elect a new Central Committee Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, Standing Committee Chairman, and Central Inspection Committee Chairman, providing strong support for the implementation of Laos' Tenth National Socio-Economic Development Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
