Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On December 4, 2025, a delegation led by Santapha Phomvihane, Minister of Finance of Laos and Vice Chairman of the National Population and Housing Census Steering Committee, visited Vientiane Province to promote and supervise the implementation of the 5th National Population and Housing Census in 2025. The delegation met with Khamphan Sithidhanpha, Governor of Vientiane Province and Chairman of the Provincial Census Steering Committee, at the Provincial Government Office.

On the same day, the National and Provincial Population and Housing Census Steering Committees, together with international donor organizations, held a joint meeting to report on the progress of the 5th National Population and Housing Census in Vientiane Province. As of now, the census work in the province has been 65.32% completed: the province has a total of 551 survey areas, 55 candidate areas, and 496 final survey areas, with 775 census takers and inspectors (612 census takers responsible for 61 candidate areas and 163 inspectors responsible for 19 candidate areas). Vientiane Province is estimated to have 171,672 households, of which 103,602 have been surveyed so far. Simultaneously, 107,443 habitable houses and 13,483 vacant houses were identified, along with 89,710 family households and 801 collective households, totaling a population of 397,158 (including 196,471 women). The remaining households will be surveyed systematically according to plan.

Santapha Phomvihane provided clear guidance for subsequent work: Census guidance committees at all levels must conduct extensive and comprehensive publicity and promotion in communities to ensure the census reaches the grassroots level; the population census should be treated as a key task, organically integrated with various local activities, guiding the public to understand and actively cooperate throughout the entire process; leaders at all levels must strengthen supervision and provide necessary technical and other support. He particularly emphasized that provincial and county-level inspectors should play a leading role, strictly adhere to working principles, closely supervise the on-site data collection work of census takers, and ensure that all problems encountered during the census are promptly identified and resolved by the end of December 2025, guaranteeing the successful completion of the census as planned. During the visit, Santapa Fonteyn and his delegation also went to Banpusang Village and Bannonna Village in Penghong County to supervise and support the census work on-site, and listened to reports from the village chiefs on the progress of the census.
