
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son recently met with Lao Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Communications, Xaysana Sithiphong, during the 2025 Autumn Economic Forum in Ho Chi Minh City. The two sides discussed strengthening cooperation in information technology, digital infrastructure construction, and digital connectivity.
Bui Thanh Son explained that this year's forum, themed "Green Transformation in the Digital Age," highlights the role of digital infrastructure in sustainable development and regional connectivity as a key focus for both Vietnam and Laos. Xaysana Sithiphong pointed out that digital infrastructure is a crucial pillar of overall connectivity between the two countries and called on Vietnam to implement the cooperation documents already signed by both sides.
Bui Thanh Son stated that Vietnam is willing to promote cooperation between its large domestic technology companies (Viettel, VNPT, FPT, etc.) and Laos in implementing digital projects. Regarding digital talent cultivation, Vietnam will share its experience and support Laos in nurturing young talent in information technology, artificial intelligence, and other fields, jointly building an ecosystem for entrepreneurship, innovation, and green digital transformation.
He also emphasized that Vietnam will cooperate with Laos to build a national data repository and data center, strengthening data connectivity. During the recent visit of the Lao President to Vietnam, the two sides launched a plan for Vietnam to support Laos in building a national population database. Vietnam's ongoing population data digitization project (Project 06) has yielded significant results, with its shared national database expected to be completed by 2025. Vietnam is willing to share its experience and technology in this field with Laos and strengthen cooperation in cybersecurity.
Xaysana Sithipong reviewed existing cooperative achievements between the two countries (such as expert exchanges and training programs), expressed gratitude for Vietnam's support, and proposed future cooperation priorities, including cloud computing and data center construction, artificial intelligence applications, digital transformation, cybersecurity enhancement, and digital talent development. He expressed hope for continued technical and training support from Vietnam.
