Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Doctors from Quang Ngai 2 General Hospital in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam, will conduct a three-month training program in pediatric anesthesia techniques for their counterparts at Attapeu Provincial Hospital in Laos.
This training includes practical guidance and technology transfer, with a focus on assisting doctors at Attapeu Provincial Hospital, such as Viengkhon Manivong. After the Lao doctors have mastered the techniques, the Quang Ngai 2 General Hospital team will also travel to Attapeu Province to provide on-site guidance and ensure the technology is effectively implemented.
Le Huu Ly, Vice President of Quang Ngai 2 General Hospital, explained that this cooperation is an important part of the memorandum of understanding between the two hospitals. He stated that the hospital has long supported Attapeu Provincial Hospital in improving its medical capabilities through various training and technology transfer projects, particularly focusing on anesthesiology – one of the main challenges currently facing the Lao hospital. Previously, doctors from Quang Ngai Province have assisted their Lao counterparts in conducting general anesthesia-related work; the current focus is on pediatric anesthesia, with plans to expand to anesthesia for complex diseases in the future.
Nupit Ponsavan, Deputy Director of the Attapeu Provincial Hospital, admitted that due to equipment shortages and limited technical expertise, the hospital can currently only perform anesthesia for adults and cannot provide anesthesia services for children under five years old. "Pediatric cases can only be referred to Champasak Hospital, more than 200 kilometers away, causing great inconvenience to patients' families." He hopes that after this training, doctors at the Attapeu Provincial Hospital will be able to perform relevant surgeries independently, allowing local young patients to receive treatment nearby, saving families time and money. Nupit also suggested that medical training and technology transfer should be further strengthened in the future to continuously improve the level of healthcare services in Attapeu Province.
