
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Laos has established a National Election Committee, composed of 21 members, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Dr. Saysomphone Phomvihane, to oversee the upcoming national elections to be held early next year.
Expanded Election Scale: This election will elect the 10th National Assembly, increasing the number of members to 175, compared to the current 9th National Assembly's 164 members, including 36 female members.
Election Time: The election must be completed at least 60 days before the current parliament (9th session) expires on March 22, 2026. Specific dates will be announced later.
Preparatory Meeting:Following the announcement of the election results, the 10th National Assembly will hold a preparatory meeting within 60 days of the election to elect the country's top leader and approve important state affairs.
Main Agenda: The preparatory meeting will elect the President and Vice-President of the National Assembly, the President and Vice-President of the State, the Prime Minister, the Attorney General, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, as well as approve the new cabinet and the five-year national socio-economic development plan for 2026-2030.
Call for Participation: Officials have called on all Lao citizens, especially eligible voters, to actively participate in the upcoming national elections.
