Vietnam and Laos strengthen cooperation between their defense ministries

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Vientiane, General Phan Van Giang, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense, who accompanied Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on his state visit to Laos, met with Lieutenant General Khamliang Outhakaysone, member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Party and Minister of National Defense, on April 25.

  During the meeting, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that President Luong Cuong's first visit to Laos, and his first overseas trip before 2025, fully demonstrates the importance attached to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

  Lieutenant General Khamliang Outhakaysone stated that Laos will forever remember and appreciate Vietnam's support and assistance to Laos in its past struggles for national liberation and reunification, and in its current efforts to renovate, build, defend, and develop the country.

  General Phan Van Giang and Lieutenant General Kamlyan Othakheson agreed that in recent years, defense cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has achieved substantial and significant results, becoming one of the important pillars of bilateral relations. The forms and mechanisms of cooperation have become increasingly diverse and extensive, particularly in the area of ​​human resource training, where cooperation has seen a significant increase in both quality and quantity. Cooperation in defense potential development and the defense industry has become increasingly targeted and effective.

  Both sides agreed to effectively and comprehensively implement the Protocol on Defense Cooperation 2025-2029 and the Cooperation Plan 2025, focusing on the following: promoting exchange groups and cooperation mechanisms at all levels, especially the defense policy dialogue mechanism; strengthening cooperation in party and political work, with a focus on educating the public about the history, significance, and importance of Vietnam-Laos relations; strengthening multilateral cooperation; maintaining the annual meeting mechanism of the defense ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia; improving the quality of cooperation in human resource training and development; and strengthening cooperation in border management and protection. General Phan Van Giang expressed his hope that the Lao government and Ministry of National Defense would continue to support and facilitate the investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises, especially those of the Vietnam People's Army, in Laos.

  General Phan Van Giang thanked the Lao Ministry of National Defense for sending troops to participate in the military parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. (End)
