Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On July 11th in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, Vietjet Air and the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport handed over an agreement to strengthen air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos, witnessed by Vietnamese President To Lam, Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee General Secretary and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, and other senior leaders of both countries.
According to the agreement, Vietjet Air will cooperate with the Lao Civil Aviation Authority to implement various civil aviation projects, expand its business and development activities in Laos, and commit to creating 2,500 new jobs in the Lao aviation industry. Vietjet Air Academy will conduct internationally standardized human resource training in Laos and establish an independent Technical Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center in Laos. The Lao Civil Aviation Authority, as a partner, will provide Vietjet Air with financial, legal, and infrastructure assistance.
Vietjet Air's efforts to develop air transport connectivity in Laos will bring cost-effective and superior service opportunities to local residents and tourists visiting Laos, thus contributing to the future economic and social development, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange of Laos and other countries in the region. The Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport highly appreciates Vietjet Air's contributions and capabilities. The signing of the aviation development cooperation agreement aligns with the goals and common direction of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in Transport between the two governments for the period 2016-2025.
In 2023, Vietjet Air established a regional modern aircraft maintenance center jointly operated with Lao Airlines, managed by the aviation authorities of both countries. Earlier this year, the two airlines launched a route connecting Vientiane, the capital of Laos, with Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Vietjet's routes not only connect Ho Chi Minh City with Vientiane and other parts of Laos, but also enhance travel convenience with a network covering all of Vietnam and destinations in countries such as Australia, India, South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan.
Currently, Vietnam is one of Laos's largest sources of investment and trading partners. There are currently 255 Vietnamese investment projects in Laos, totaling US$5.5 billion. In particular, cooperation between the two countries in areas such as transportation, tourism, and science and technology is showing a vigorous momentum, including new projects between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, promoting trade and investment development, and playing an important role in the sustainable development and prosperity of Vietnam and Laos and even the region.
