Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to the Supreme People's Court of China, on April 14, the Nanyang Intermediate People's Court of Henan Province publicly announced its first-instance verdict in the bribery case of Liu Weidong, former member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice General Manager of China Ordnance Equipment Group Co., Ltd. Liu Weidong was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment for bribery and fined RMB 4 million. His ill-gotten gains and any interest accrued were confiscated and turned over to the national treasury.
In February 2025, official reports indicated that Liu Weidong was under investigation while in office. In July, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced his expulsion from the Party and public office. He was accused of "profiting from the company" and "amassing wealth through bribery."
The court found that from 1999 to 2025, the defendant Liu Weidong, taking advantage of his positions as General Manager of Xiangfan Dongfeng Automobile Electrical Co., Ltd., Minister of the Cooperation and Supporting Department of Dongfeng Motor Corporation Heavy Truck Company, Member of the Party Committee and General Manager of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd., Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. Passenger Vehicle Company, Member of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager of China Ordnance Equipment Group Co., Ltd., and Chairman of China Changan Automobile Group Co., Ltd., provided assistance to relevant entities and individuals in matters such as business operations and promotions, and accepted bribes totaling more than RMB 41.39 million.
The court held that the defendant Liu Weidong's actions constituted the crime of bribery, and the amount of bribes was particularly large, warranting punishment according to law. However, given that he truthfully confessed his crimes after being apprehended, proactively disclosed some bribery facts not yet known to the investigating authorities, pleaded guilty and showed remorse, actively returned the ill-gotten gains, and the bribes in this case have been recovered, he was eligible for a lighter sentence according to law. The court therefore rendered the above judgment.
It is reported that the Nanyang Intermediate People's Court held a public hearing for the case on January 16th of this year. Liu Weidong pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in court. (End)
