Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On December 5th, Chinese President Xi Jinping held friendly exchanges with French President Emmanuel Macron in Dujiangyan, Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

In early winter, Dujiangyan was shrouded in verdant mountains. Upon their arrival, Macron and his wife were warmly welcomed by Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan. Xi Jinping welcomed Macron to the "Land of Abundance," saying that Macron had invited him to his hometown, the Hauts-Pyrénées, last year, and he believed this trip would further enrich Macron's understanding of China.

The two heads of state and their spouses walked and talked along the irrigation canal.

Xi Jinping introduced the history and significance of Dujiangyan, pointing out that the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the only ancient water conservancy project in the world still in use today, and one of the earliest successful practices of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Its construction fully reflects the Chinese nation's spirit of self-reliance, perseverance, and pioneering. He added that every time he visits Dujiangyan, he feels the greatness of his ancestors in adapting to local conditions, following the natural flow, achieving harmony between humanity and nature, and managing water for the benefit of the people, drawing wisdom for governance from it. The French nation also possesses an indomitable spirit. China and France should be able to understand and respect each other better than other countries.

Macron stated that Dujiangyan boasts beautiful scenery and lush mountains. This water conservancy project, built over two thousand years ago, still functions effectively, a testament to the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese people. Both France and China have long histories and rich cultures, and the people of both countries share a common pursuit of a better life. Franco-Chinese cooperation can jointly promote development and prosperity, benefiting both peoples.

The two heads of state and their spouses sat in the Huaigu Pavilion, enjoying tea by the water and discussing world affairs.

Xi Jinping emphasized that national strength and rejuvenation require both the accumulation of material civilization and the sublimation of spiritual civilization. Only a nation with cultural confidence can stand firm, remain stable, and go far. Chinese civilization is the only great civilization in the world that has continued uninterrupted and developed into a state to this day, possessing outstanding continuity, innovation, unity, inclusiveness, and peace. China and France are outstanding representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, respectively. The shared spirit of independence and self-reliance between the two countries stems from their respective profound cultural heritage. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France is not only a "handshake" between two independent and sovereign nations, but also a convergence of two brilliant civilizations. Faced with a complex and volatile international situation, it is believed that China and France, two great nations with rich historical and cultural heritage, can make greater contributions to world peace, stability, and human progress through dialogue and cooperation.

Macron stated that the current international situation is rapidly evolving and fraught with uncertainty. France is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China, adhere to resolving conflicts through dialogue and consultation, and work together to safeguard world peace and stability.

Xi Jinping and his wife invited Macron and his wife to lunch to continue their in-depth exchanges.

The two heads of state agreed to maintain close communication and jointly promote the continuous development of the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the visit, the two sides issued a joint statement on strengthening global governance, cooperating in addressing global climate and environmental challenges, continuously advancing cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, agricultural and food exchanges and cooperation, the situation in Ukraine, and the situation in Palestine.

Wang Yi participated in the above activities. (End)
