Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The 2025 Belt and Road Initiative Ministerial Meeting on Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management was held in Sanya, Hainan Province on the 6th. Reporters learned at the meeting that the Belt and Road Initiative International Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management has expanded, with 7 countries joining as members and 2 international organizations as partners.
On the same day, Wang Xiangxi, Chairman of the Council of the Belt and Road Initiative International Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management and Minister of Emergency Management of China, chaired the Council meeting. Representatives from 27 cooperation mechanism members, 8 international organizations in China, and relevant ambassadors attended the meeting.
The Council meeting reviewed and approved the revised charter of the cooperation mechanism, agreeing to the accession of Tonga, Zimbabwe, Georgia, Malawi, Gambia, Comoros, and Honduras as members, and the accession of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre as partners; it also formally announced the establishment of the Belt and Road Enterprise Sustainable Development Center and the Belt and Road Mining Standards Internationalization Working Group under the cooperation mechanism.
It is reported that in November 2021, China initiated the establishment of the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management. The mechanism was formally established in November 2023, and currently has 34 countries and 3 international organizations as members or partners, with its benefits reaching more than 80 countries across five continents.
