Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the afternoon of October 31 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the request of her during the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Japan are close neighbors separated only by a strip of water, and promoting the long-term, healthy, and stable development of China-Japan relations is in line with the general expectations of the people of both countries and the international community. China is willing to work with Japan to safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations, advance strategic and mutually beneficial relations, and strive to build a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era, in accordance with the principles and directions established in the four political documents between China and Japan.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China-Japan relations currently face both opportunities and challenges. He hoped that the new Japanese cabinet would establish a correct understanding of China, cherish the efforts and dedication of the older generation of politicians and people from all walks of life in developing China-Japan relations, and adhere to the general direction of peace, friendship, and cooperation between China and Japan. First, it is essential to uphold important consensus. This includes putting into practice the political consensus of "comprehensively advancing strategic and mutually beneficial relations," "being partners and not posing a threat to each other," and "learning from history and looking to the future." First, we must adhere to and fulfill the explicit provisions in the four political documents between China and Japan on major principled issues such as history and Taiwan, ensuring that the foundation of Sino-Japanese relations remains undamaged and unshaken. The "Murayama Statement," which profoundly reflected on Japan's history of aggression and apologized to victimized countries, embodies a spirit worthy of promotion. Second, we must uphold win-win cooperation. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee outlined the blueprint for China's development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, providing broad space for Sino-Japanese cooperation. China and Japan can strengthen cooperation in high-end manufacturing, the digital economy, green development, finance, healthcare and elderly care, and third-party markets, jointly maintaining the stability and smooth flow of the multilateral trading system and industrial and supply chains. Third, we must promote people-to-people exchanges. We should continue to conduct communication between governments, political parties, and legislative bodies, deepen and expand cultural and local exchanges, and improve public sentiment. Fourth, we must strengthen multilateral cooperation. Adhering to the principles of good neighborliness, equality and mutual benefit, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, we should practice genuine multilateralism and promote the building of an Asia-Pacific community. Fifth, we must properly manage differences. Focusing on the overall situation, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and resolving differences through common ground, we must avoid allowing contradictions and disagreements to define the bilateral relationship.

Sanae Takaichi stated that China is an important neighbor of Japan, and both Japan and China bear significant responsibility for regional and global peace and prosperity. Japan is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China, strengthen communication at all levels, enhance understanding, promote cooperation, and solidly advance the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries to build a constructive and stable Japan-China relationship. On the Taiwan issue, Japan will adhere to its position as stated in the 1972 Japan-China Joint Statement.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and others participated.
