Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – "Our core intention in creating this interactive space is to bring virtual IPs to the offline world and make the stories of overseas Chinese remittance letters tangible and relatable," said Chen Feng, Director of the Compilation and Development Department of the Fujian Provincial Archives, on the 7th, as the "Immersive Interactive Space of the Overseas Chinese Remittance Letters Museum," meticulously crafted by the Fujian Provincial Archives, officially opened to the public.
The Fujian Provincial Archives houses over 50,000 pieces of overseas Chinese remittance letter archives and has been continuously promoting the protection, research, and development of these archives for many years. To further revitalize these archives, the archives meticulously created this immersive experience space integrating exhibition, puzzle-solving, and interactive functions.
The space uses "this side of the sea" and "that side of the sea" as its narrative thread, dividing two eras and two styles with a single wall, constructing an emotional corridor spanning mountains and seas. One side of the wall features an old residence full of Nanyang (Southeast Asian) style, while the other side showcases a real-life scene of the Overseas Chinese Remittance Letters Museum in a modern Chinese style. As visitors move through the changing scenes, they can both reminisce about the struggles and triumphs "across the sea" and appreciate the enduring spirit "on this side of the sea."

On-site, crossing the threshold, visitors can step from Fuzhou in 2026 into the story of a century-old network of overseas Chinese remittance letters, completing a journey across mountains and seas between "this side of the sea" and "the other side." Chen Feng stated that this space, based on the original IP "Overseas Chinese Remittance Letter Museum," has achieved a tangible transformation from a virtual setting to a physical scene.
In 2024, the Fujian Provincial Archives created the virtual IP "Overseas Chinese Remittance Letter Museum." Around this IP, the archives successively launched immersive interactive reading experiences such as "Overseas Chinese Remittance Letter Museum" and the "Overseas Chinese Remittance Letter Museum·Yili Lane" real-life puzzle-solving experience, gaining widespread social attention, especially among young people, due to its novel presentation.
Based on the success of this initial practice, the Fujian Provincial Archives launched an attempt to materialize the IP. “We meticulously refined details such as spatial narrative and interactive methods, striving to remain true to the core of the IP while also aligning with the offline experience,” Chen Feng revealed. After a year of careful preparation, the “Overseas Chinese Letters Museum” has finally transformed from a concept into an accessible and interactive physical space. IP characters such as Manager Min and A Qing can “meet” visitors here, achieving a complete narrative loop from online to offline.

In addition, the space includes interactive elements such as writing and sending letters, enhancing the visitor experience and immersion. “Through these interactions, visitors are no longer passive viewers but become explorers of the story,” said Zhu Xiaoxiao, head of the “Overseas Chinese Letters Museum” IP project at the Fujian Provincial Archives. The interactive design aims to bring archival documents to life and evoke emotional resonance with the culture of overseas Chinese letters, especially among younger generations.
It is understood that the Fujian Provincial Archives will also hold the exhibition “Overseas Chinese Letters Across a Thousand Miles to Report Peace—Memories of Fujian and Singapore Through Paper and Ink” in Fuzhou’s Sanfang Qixiang area before the Lunar New Year in 2026. (End)
