Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Reporters learned from the Ministry of Water Resources of China on February 3 that the third meeting of the China-EU Water Policy Dialogue Mechanism was held at the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on the morning of February 2, local time. The theme of the meeting was "Deepening Water Cooperation and Enhancing Water Resilience."
Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying stated at the meeting that the conservation and intensive use of water resources is a crucial area for China's comprehensive water conservation strategy. The Ministry of Water Resources is focusing on three major areas: agricultural water conservation and efficiency improvement, industrial water conservation and emission reduction, and urban water conservation and loss reduction. It is systematically planning a water conservation policy system to promote the high-quality development of water conservation through the systematic, complete, and coordinated nature of this system.
Li Guoying stated that continuous, pragmatic, and in-depth water governance cooperation between China and the EU is urgently needed to promote global water governance and advance the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Both sides should further strengthen policy dialogue, deepen climate adaptation cooperation, advance important international water governance agendas, and play a leading and exemplary role in China-EU cooperation in global water governance.
Jesica Roswal, European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and Competitiveness, and Circular Economy, stated that the EU will release its Water Resilience Strategy in 2025, aiming to restore and protect the water cycle, build a smart water-using economy, and provide clean and affordable water and sanitation for all. The EU is willing to share its technology and experience in implementing the Water Resilience Strategy with China, jointly contributing wisdom and strength to achieving the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During the meeting, representatives from both China and the EU delivered technical reports on three topics: water resource protection and efficient utilization, digital twin water management, and international water governance. Li Guoying and Jesica Roswal also held a one-on-one dialogue on water governance-related policies, measures, and achievements, and held two bilateral talks before and after the meeting to conduct in-depth discussions and exchange views on promoting water governance and its practical cooperation.
The China-EU Water Policy Dialogue Mechanism was established in 2017 to implement the outcomes of the China-EU Leaders' Meeting and enhance the level of communication and cooperation on water resource policies between China and the EU. (End)
