Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the 5th, it was learned from China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Railway Group) that a sea-rail intermodal freight train carrying solar photovoltaic modules, auto parts, and other goods departed from the Shanghai Luchao Port Container Center Station (hereinafter referred to as Luchao Port Center Station) that morning. This marks a significant milestone, with Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport volume exceeding 1 million TEUs since 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 20% and setting a new historical record.

Since the beginning of this year, Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport volume has seen a significant growth rate. Shanghai Railway Group has continuously improved the throughput capacity of the railway "capillaries" connecting the port by optimizing fixed train schedules, reducing train dwell time at stations, and operating "full-axle" trains.

To adapt to the rapid growth in container traffic, in recent years, Luchao Port Center Station has innovated its management model, moving the railway station functions forward, breaking through the "last mile" bottleneck of port access, and achieving efficient coordination of unloading, transshipment, and transportation between Luchao Port Center Station and Yangshan Deep-Water Port. The station has also increased investment in infrastructure upgrades, significantly improving its operational capacity through measures such as extending loading and unloading lines, upgrading and adding gantry crane control systems, and expanding dedicated storage yards.

Currently, all four bundles and eight tracks of railway at the Luchao Port Central Station are capable of handling entire trainloads, with an average loading and unloading efficiency of 3 minutes per container and an annual handling capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEUs. Shanghai Railway Group has fully tapped the line's potential, increasing the number of scheduled trains between Nanxiang and Luchao Port to 20 pairs, with a maximum of 22 pairs operating daily; simultaneously, adopting a "regular train + individual train" organization model, adding nearly 90,000 TEUs of transport capacity annually.

Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport lines now cover more than 40 cities nationwide, with regular train lines operating stably.

Chen Songdi, manager of the Multimodal Transport Department of the Logistics Division of Shanghai Railway Group, said, "This year, the volume of container arrivals and departures via Shanghai's sea-rail intermodal transport is expected to exceed 1.09 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 15%. In the future, we will continue to increase the frequency of train services to various parts of the Yangtze River Delta, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the central and western regions, including launching customized train services, to further attract cargo from the hinterland."
