According to the latest data from the Medical Device Supply Chain Branch of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (www.dnyxxg.com), the Chinese medical device market is expected to maintain steady growth in 2025. Preliminary statistics indicate that the market size is projected to reach 1.22 trillion yuan for the year. The innovation sector is particularly strong, becoming the core driving force for industry growth. As of the end of October 2025, the number of approved innovative medical devices had increased to 377, and is expected to reach a new high for the year.

Ma Zengrong, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the medical supply chain industry has achieved significant results in many aspects—innovation achievements are emerging rapidly, the medical aftermarket is booming, and the pace of domestically produced medical devices going global is accelerating.

Zhang Yue, Chairman of Aoyou International, stated that the Chinese medical device market size is projected to reach 1.22 trillion yuan in 2025, an increase of approximately 30% compared to 941.7 billion yuan in 2024, leading the growth rate among major global markets and injecting new momentum into the development of the global healthcare industry.

With the accelerating aging population, upgrading medical needs, and technological innovation, the Chinese and global medical device markets are showing steady growth and will gradually unleash enormous potential. According to Frost & Sullivan data analysis, China's medical device market has been climbing year by year in recent years, becoming the world's second largest market after the United States.

According to Sullivan data analysis, from 2018 to 2023, the overall market size of China's medical device market increased from RMB 528.4 billion to RMB 973.1 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 13%. It is projected that by 2030, the overall market size of China's medical device market will reach RMB 1.6275 trillion.

Ma Zengrong introduced that, according to relevant data, by the end of 2025, the number of medical institutions implementing medical device SPD (Supply, Processing, and Distribution) smart management projects will reach 2,600, the number of third-party sterilization supply centers will increase to 107, and the third-party medical testing market will steadily grow. These emerging business models are driving the transformation of the medical supply chain from "material support" to "service empowerment," providing important support for improving the quality and efficiency of the medical system.

Furthermore, facing the deepening of domestic healthcare reform policies and the continuous reshaping of the market competition landscape, going global has transformed from an "optional" for medical device companies into a "must-answer question" for overcoming development bottlenecks. Ma Zengrong stated that since 2025, domestically produced medical devices have actively expanded into the global market, with stable export performance. Industry data shows that in the first three quarters of 2025, my country's total medical device exports reached US$37.007 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.61%, with its share in the global medical market continuing to expand.

"Domestic medical device exports are upgrading from 'product export' to 'brand export'," Zhang Yue also pointed out. With the improvement of independent R&D capabilities, the competitiveness of domestically produced medical devices in core technologies and product quality is constantly increasing, especially in areas such as imaging equipment, in vitro diagnostics, and medical consumables, where they have already replaced some imported products and are gradually entering high-end markets such as Europe and the United States.

Standing at the juncture between the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the "15th Five-Year Plan," Ma Zengrong suggested that the industry's entire chain governance under the "three-pronged approach" of medical reform, medical insurance, and pharmaceuticals should be further deepened, closely linking the coordinated development and governance mechanism reform of medical care, medical insurance, and pharmaceuticals. Promote the transformation and upgrading of supply chain services towards "integrated services" and "clinical value creation," improving the overall cost-effectiveness and service level of the healthcare system.

Simultaneously, comprehensively build a new paradigm for smart healthcare supply chains. Guided by the "digitalization of national health," promote the deep integration of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data with the entire medical supply chain, achieving dynamic resource optimization and efficiency revolution from the production end to the clinical end, and shaping a safe, efficient, visible, and traceable modern supply chain system.

"Focusing on independent innovation and domestic substitution of key core technologies, core components, and advanced materials, we must solve the problem of high dependence on foreign countries for high-end equipment and core components," Ma Zengrong emphasized. He added that support should be given to collaborative research across the entire industry chain to build a safe, resilient, and internationally competitive domestic medical device industry ecosystem.
