The forum, themed "A New Starting Point for a Carbon Future," featured two thematic forums: "Carbon Future: Exploring Industrial Opportunities" and "A New Starting Point: Innovation Beyond Limits." Renowned experts and scholars from relevant fields engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as green energy, technological innovation, and open cooperation, jointly exploring pathways for low-carbon transformation and envisioning a green development future.
Zhao Dong, General Manager of Sinopec, and Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University, delivered opening remarks. Ma Yongsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chairman of the International CCUS Technology Innovation Cooperation Organization, Bai Chongen, Senior Professor of Humanities and Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, and Su Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Executive Bureau of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, delivered keynote speeches. Twelve people spoke at the thematic forums.
In his address, Zhao Dong, General Manager of Sinopec, stated that Sinopec, anchored to the "dual carbon" goal, is solidly advancing the eight major actions for carbon peaking, comprehensively promoting the clean energy transformation of fossil fuels, the large-scale development of clean energy, and the decarbonization of production processes, forging a green, low-carbon, and high-quality development path with petrochemical characteristics. Promoting green and low-carbon development is a strategic choice for cultivating and strengthening new productive forces, which must rely on the deep integration of technology, industry, and finance, and cannot be separated from a higher level of open cooperation. He looked forward to exploring new paths for the energy revolution together, creating a new landscape for low-carbon transformation, and making new and greater contributions to promoting green and low-carbon development and building a beautiful China.
In his address, Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University, stated that promoting carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee and an inherent requirement for promoting high-quality development. Universities are a natural convergence point of education, science and technology, and talent, and bear important responsibilities in serving the "dual carbon" strategy. Tsinghua University has always regarded serving the country as its highest pursuit, fully leveraging its advantages as a comprehensive university, and consciously fulfilling its mission and responsibilities in talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation, industry-education integration, and international cooperation in the "dual carbon" field, achieving remarkable results. During the forum, a ceremony was held to release outstanding Sinopec cases selected for the Tsinghua University Chinese Business Administration Case Database. Zhong Ren, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Sinopec, and Xue Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, jointly released the outstanding Sinopec cases for the Chinese Business Administration Case Database. Five cases were selected, including those from Sinopec's Materials and Equipment Department, Shengli Oilfield, Jianghan Oilfield, Xinxing Company, and Jiujiang Petrochemical. These selected cases will become official teaching cases in the fields of new energy, new materials, and new economy, providing teaching and research support to more than 900 universities nationwide, contributing to the cultivation of low-carbon talent and promoting high-quality development in the industry.
During the forum, a signing ceremony was held for the "Science Energy Station" project, with Easy Joy Company, China Science and Technology Museum, and China Economic Publishing House Co., Ltd. signing an agreement. This project leverages the nationwide Easy Joy convenience store network and the professional resources of the China Science and Technology Museum, utilizing the science popularization and cultural creative transformation capabilities of the China Economic Publishing House to create a cross-sectoral integration platform, making the energy stations accessible to the public as "scientific knowledge replenishment stations" and "windows to cutting-edge technology experiences."
On the morning of the forum, the 2025 "Carbon Neutral Ecological Partner" program commenced. This program, jointly explored by Sinopec and Tsinghua University, represents a new path for university-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration, aiming to build a cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral exchange platform. The study tour program launched this time will focus on cultivating a group of leading talents in the field of carbon neutrality with international vision, innovative spirit, and practical skills, providing technical support for my country's carbon neutrality policy formulation, promoting cooperation in the carbon neutrality industry chain, and fostering the development of green and low-carbon industries.
The 2025 Tsinghua University "Carbon Neutral Economy" Forum was guided by Tsinghua University and Sinopec, and jointly organized by the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, the Tsinghua University Carbon Neutral Research Institute, the International CCUS Technology Innovation Cooperation Organization, and the China Economic Publishing House. More than 400 people from relevant units participated in the forum. The forum has been held for five consecutive sessions, bringing together cutting-edge research and industrial practice results from Tsinghua University and industry. It is committed to creating a high-level exchange platform and contributing solutions, wisdom and strength to achieving the "dual carbon" goal.
