Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Champasak Province in Laos is actively attracting foreign investment to develop its tourism industry. Recently, it reached a cooperation agreement with Sun Group, a well-known Vietnamese tourism infrastructure developer. Sun Group will visit Champasak Province in June to conduct a feasibility study on potential cable car and tourism facility projects, which is expected to help the province develop into a regional tourism center.
It is understood that the cooperation opportunity stemmed from a meeting held in Da Nang, Vietnam on May 9th. A Lao delegation led by Arunxay Sunarath, Secretary of the Champasak Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, met with executives from Sun Group, known for its landmark projects such as the Ba Na Hills tourism complex. The meeting highlighted three strategic tourism development areas in the province: the Phu Sa Lao-Phu Ma Long area in Phong Thong District (boasting panoramic views of the Mekong River); the Bora Van Plateau near Bachhong District (with a cool climate suitable for high-end resorts and ecotourism); and the Four Thousand Islands in Khong District, known as the "River Island Paradise" (possessing enormous international tourism potential). During the meeting, Arunxay Sunarat emphasized that Champasak province possesses multiple investment advantages: located at a core node of the East-West Economic Corridor, its regional connectivity is continuously improving, allowing it to connect with the markets of Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam; it boasts the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Champasak Temple, and its tourism and agricultural potential is outstanding, having already attracted foreign investment to build large-scale blueberry, blackberry, and macadamia nut farms. This meeting aimed to invite Vietnamese investors to explore opportunities in southern Laos and jointly assess the feasibility of building world-class tourism infrastructure.
The Vice President of Sun Group expressed strong interest in the cooperation project and stated that he would lead a delegation in June to conduct on-site research in Champasak province, joining the Da Nang delegation. If the feasibility study is approved and the project progresses smoothly, Vietnamese investment will introduce modern tourism facilities and international standard services to Champasak province, helping it upgrade to a core regional tourism destination.
The Champasak provincial government stated that cooperation with experienced foreign investors will effectively unleash local tourism potential, attract more international tourists, create jobs, and drive local economic growth.
