Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Creative tourism, with its unique experiences that stimulate tourist participation, has become a new trend in cultural tourism development and a crucial strategic direction for Vietnam to enhance its tourism appeal, protect its cultural heritage, and promote the sustainable development of its tourism industry.
Vietnam boasts abundant natural and cultural resources, with various tangible and intangible cultural heritages scattered throughout the country, giving it a strong foundation for creative tourism development. Local resources such as exquisite handicrafts, distinctive performing arts, music, painting, and culinary culture can all be transformed into immersive creative tourism products.
In recent years, many regions in Vietnam have actively developed creative tourism, continuously enhancing the industry's competitiveness. Hanoi's Tang Lam Ancient Village attracts tourists with its lacquerware making, straw crafts, and agricultural experiences; Ba Trang Pottery Village and Quang Phu Quy Incense Making Village offer interactive pottery and incense-making experiences, allowing tourists to deeply immerse themselves in local culture; Hoi An, with its traditional handicraft villages and folk art experiences, has become a benchmark destination for creative tourism in Vietnam.
At the policy level, Vietnam's "Tourism Development Strategy to 2030" explicitly proposes promoting the integrated development of culture and tourism, combining tourism development with cultural heritage protection and the preservation of ethnic cultures. The "Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries to 2030, with a Vision to 2045," approved by the Vietnamese Prime Minister in November 2025, also proposes to create distinctive, differentiated, and personalized cultural tourism products, pointing the way for the development of creative tourism.
Do Cam Thi, an expert from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, suggests that Vietnam needs to establish a national legal framework for the development of creative tourism, formulate standards and procedures for the recognition of creative tourism destinations, establish a support mechanism to provide financial and tax support to relevant startups, and integrate sustainable innovation concepts into tourism planning to achieve synergistic development of the cultural and creative industries and the tourism industry.
