Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Recently, with the strong assistance of relevant departments, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, and relevant South African law enforcement agencies, Chinese public security authorities extradited Chen, a suspect accused of illegal business operations, from South Africa back to China. This case marks the first successful extradition since the Extradition Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa came into effect.
It is understood that the suspect, Chen, illegally engaged in the exchange of RMB for South African Rand for illegal profit, involving more than 49 million RMB. In June 2020, the Chongming District People's Procuratorate of Shanghai approved the arrest of Chen on suspicion of illegal business operations. In July 2025, South African police arrested Chen, and China subsequently filed an extradition request; in December of the same year, a South African court ruled to extradite Chen to China.
A relevant official from the Economic Crime Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security stated that this successful extradition demonstrates the firm determination of China and South Africa to jointly combat crime and is of milestone significance for consolidating and deepening bilateral judicial and law enforcement cooperation.
