Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, met with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in Beijing on February 1.

Wang Yi welcomed Shoigu's visit to China for strategic communication, commissioned by President Putin. He stated that the world is currently experiencing greater turmoil and complexity, with the post-World War II international order and norms of international relations severely impacted, and the world facing the real danger of regressing to the "law of the jungle." As major world powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia have the responsibility and obligation to practice genuine multilateralism, uphold the international system with the UN at its core, advocate for an equitable and orderly multipolar world, inclusive economic globalization, and promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.

Wang Yi said that China and Russia are each other's largest neighbors and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners in the new era. They should maintain close communication on major issues concerning bilateral relations, increase mutual support on issues involving each other's core interests, and safeguard their respective and common interests. The leadership of the two heads of state is the greatest advantage and fundamental guarantee for the high-level development of China-Russia relations. China is willing to work with Russia to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen strategic communication, deepen strategic cooperation, and promote a new phase in China-Russia relations in the new year.

Shoigu extended his best wishes to the Chinese people for a happy Lunar New Year of the Horse, noting that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between Russia and China. He emphasized that bilateral relations are based on mutual respect, mutual trust, equality, and mutual benefit. He noted the turbulent global situation and frequent security hotspots since the beginning of the year. Russia has always adhered to the one-China principle, closely monitored the actions of hostile forces undermining stability across the Taiwan Strait, and resolutely opposed Japan's attempts to accelerate its "remilitarization." He expressed Russia's willingness to continue to firmly support China, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and enhance collaboration within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and BRICS, jointly maintaining the momentum of high-level development in Russia-China relations and promoting the building of a more just and equitable multipolar world and an indivisible security architecture across Eurasia.

The two sides also conducted in-depth strategic communication on various international and regional issues of common concern. (End)
