Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Reporters learned from the Three Gorges Group that the world's first 20 MW offshore wind turbine was successfully installed in the waters off Fujian Province. This marks the first time a 20 MW offshore wind turbine has been installed at sea in my country, signifying a major breakthrough in the research, development, manufacturing, and offshore construction of ultra-large capacity turbines.

The turbine was installed more than 30 kilometers offshore in waters exceeding 40 meters in depth. Facing multiple challenges, including a short construction window during the monsoon season, complex sea conditions, and high-risk high-altitude operations, the construction team used a fourth-generation wind turbine installation vessel with a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons. Through the application of high-precision positioning and an intelligent pile-driving control system, three giant blades, each 147 meters long, were smoothly lifted sequentially to a height of 174 meters and precisely connected to the hub. The massive rotor, with a diameter of 300 meters and a swept area nearly 10 standard football fields, was then assembled.

It is understood that this 20 MW unit is a key national R&D project and has been included in the National Energy Administration's list of first-of-its-kind major technical equipment. The unit achieves 100% domestic production of key components and has made breakthroughs in lightweight design, reducing the weight per megawatt by more than 20% compared to the industry average, effectively lowering the difficulty of hoisting and construction and the cost of foundation building.
After the unit is connected to the grid, its annual power generation is expected to exceed 80 million kilowatt-hours, which can meet the electricity needs of approximately 44,000 households for one year, equivalent to saving approximately 24,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 64,000 tons.
