Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On December 17, 2025, the Kunming Intermediate People's Court of Yunnan Province publicly announced its first-instance verdict in the bribery case of Cui Baohua, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Cui Baohua was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for bribery and fined RMB 5 million. All proceeds of Cui Baohua's crimes and their interest were confiscated and turned over to the national treasury.
The court found that from 2005 to 2024, Cui Baohua, taking advantage of his positions as Secretary of the Suining Municipal Committee of the CPC, Standing Committee Member and Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial CPPCC, provided assistance to relevant personnel in matters such as project contracting and planning approval, illegally accepting bribes totaling more than RMB 65.39 million.
The Kunming Intermediate People's Court held that Cui Baohua's actions constituted the crime of bribery, and the amount of bribes was particularly large, warranting punishment according to law. Given that his bribery crime involved attempted bribery; that he truthfully confessed his crimes after being apprehended, proactively disclosed most of the bribery facts not yet known to the investigating authorities; that he pleaded guilty and showed remorse, actively returned the ill-gotten gains, and that all the bribes and their proceeds have been recovered, he was eligible for a lighter sentence according to law. The court thus rendered the above judgment.
It is reported that the Kunming Intermediate People's Court held a public hearing on the case on September 28, 2025. During the trial, the prosecution presented relevant evidence, which was examined by the defendant Cui Baohua and his defense counsel. Both the prosecution and the defense fully expressed their opinions under the court's guidance. Cui Baohua made a final statement and pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in court. More than 30 people, including representatives of the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and members of the public, attended the trial.
