Changsha stood out with multiple indicators, being named a "2025 Vibrant City Case Study." This marks the fifth consecutive year that Changsha has received this honor.
The *Report* uses typical cities as samples to comprehensively evaluate the vitality and potential of urban IP dissemination, consumption conversion, cultural connotation, and innovation-driven development. Through professional analysis and insights, the *Report* presents the patterns and characteristics of IP cultivation, innovation, and development in different cities, providing a reference for the high-quality development of Chinese cities.
The "2025 Vibrant City Case Studies" were released at the event. Changsha, along with Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Nanjing, was named a "2025 Vibrant City Case Study"; Guangzhou's Liwan District, Nanjing's Qixia District, Shenzhen's Longhua District, Foshan's Shunde District, and Taicang City were named "2025 Vibrant District Case Studies."
Changsha, a key node city of the Belt and Road Initiative and a central city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, is a "youth-friendly city" attracting countless young people and a fertile ground for businesses from all over the world. With its unique charm, Changsha showcases multi-dimensional development vitality. Its total economic output exceeded 1.5 trillion yuan in 2024. It has cultivated seven industrial clusters with an output value exceeding 100 billion yuan each, three national-level advanced manufacturing clusters, and three national-level characteristic industrial clusters for small and medium-sized enterprises. Currently, it boasts seven industrial parks with an output value exceeding 100 billion yuan, 21 industrial enterprises with an output value exceeding 10 billion yuan, five companies listed among the "Top 50 Smart Manufacturing Enterprises in China," 1,767 smart manufacturing pilot enterprises, and nearly 3,400 large-scale industrial enterprises.
As the "Capital of Construction Machinery," Changsha is home to five of the world's top 50 construction machinery companies. It has produced a number of world-class scientific research achievements, including super hybrid rice, supercomputers, and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System. Its innovation capabilities have consistently ranked among the top tier of national innovative cities for many years, and it is currently striving to build itself into a global R&D center city. The city boasts 152 national-level innovation platforms and 3,823 R&D institutions, ranking 23rd globally among scientific research cities.
This year, Changsha hosted international events such as the Sino-French Cultural Forum and the Belt and Road Youth Creativity and Heritage Forum, vividly showcasing the city's unique character of connecting with the world and fostering mutual learning among civilizations. Changsha Huanghua International Airport connects to 170 domestic and international destinations, and the China-Europe Railway Express (Changsha) reaches nearly 100 cities in 30 countries across Asia and Europe. Statistics show that in the first three quarters of this year, Changsha received 327,400 inbound tourists, attracted over 200 overseas travel agents, and even drew top global internet celebrities like "Hyperthyroidism Brother" and "Speechless Brother" to visit the city, demonstrating its openness to the world.
Over the past 10 years, Changsha has seen a net inflow of 1 million people, 80% of whom are young people, making it one of the cities with the largest influx of young people in China. It is also a popular city for innovation and entrepreneurship among young people, showcasing a youthful urban vitality. The city has vigorously supported university student entrepreneurship, releasing a series of ten policies, including the "Backpack Action Plan," and its 125 business incubation bases currently incubate 4,644 entities and 816 university student entrepreneurial projects.
In recent years, Changsha has systematically built its "Youthful Changsha, Vibrant City" city IP, promoting deep integration of "IP + New Consumption" and "IP + Cultural Tourism," and has been named one of "China's Most Livable Cities" for 17 consecutive years. Through a "policy-guided + market-driven" model, it has enhanced its cultural brand, promoted the innovative development of Hunan culture, and allowed its city IP to expand beyond its local boundaries to global reach.
