Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Recently, Shanghai Port welcomed its first Chilean "Cherry Express" cargo ship of the 2025/2026 season, marking the official start of the 2025/2026 Chilean cherry import season via sea through Shanghai Port.

On the same day, the cargo ship carrying 20.9 tons of fresh Chilean cherries berthed at the Waigaoqiao Port Area Terminal in Shanghai. After being supervised by the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area Customs, these fresh cherries quickly entered the fruit market in the Yangtze River Delta region.

In the cherry import process, customs' information-based and intelligent supervision methods are playing an increasingly important role. Luo Zhen, Deputy Section Chief of the Tenth Inspection Section of Waigaoqiao Port Area Customs, stated, "We fully utilize the achievements of smart customs construction and actively explore innovative customs clearance supervision models, truly achieving 'immediate arrival, immediate inspection, and immediate release,' ensuring that the customs clearance of imported fruits is both safe and efficient."

To further improve the customs clearance efficiency of fresh Chilean fruits shipped by sea, Shanghai Customs and the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Bureau have established a bilateral mutual recognition model for the insertion and verification of fruit temperature probes for cold treatment of Chilean fruits exported to China. Under this model, Chinese citizens can access relevant information online through the "Smart Animal and Plant Quarantine Platform," and the use of containerized refrigerated transport significantly improves customs clearance speed and efficiency, thereby enhancing trade facilitation.

Recently, Shanghai Yangshan Port also welcomed a batch of 196 tons of Chilean cherries. After conformity assessment and release procedures by Yangshan Customs, a branch of Shanghai Customs, they entered the domestic market.

"Customs' 'immediate inspection upon arrival' and other convenient measures ensure the imported cherries maintain their freshness to the greatest extent possible. Currently, 'Cherry Express' ships are being dispatched one after another. Before the Spring Festival in 2026, it is expected that 31 'Cherry Express' ships will berth at Shanghai Yangshan Port, with a planned delivery of 250,000 tons of high-quality cherries to Chinese consumers' tables before the Spring Festival. The import volume is approximately two to three times that of last year's cherry season," said Xu Zhen, manager of the customs declaration department of Shanghai Huizhan International Trade Co., Ltd.
