Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Hanoi Tourism Department released data on February 21st showing that during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 (February 14th-22nd, the 27th day of the 12th lunar month to the 6th day of the 1st lunar month), Hanoi is expected to receive approximately 1.34 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 36.3%; tourism revenue is projected to reach VND 4.87 trillion (equivalent to RMB 1.28 billion), a year-on-year increase of 40.2%, demonstrating strong growth in the Lunar New Year tourism market.
Among the tourist demographics, international tourists numbered approximately 217,000, a significant year-on-year increase of 55%, with China, South Korea, India, France, the UK, and the US being the main source countries, indicating a continued expansion of the international tourist market; domestic tourists numbered approximately 1.13 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%. Regarding accommodation, the average occupancy rate of hotels and tourist apartments throughout the city was 66.8% (up 1.2% year-on-year), with 4-5 star hotels exceeding 72% occupancy. Advance bookings and extended stays by tourists significantly increased during the Spring Festival.
A highlight of this Spring Festival tourism was the upgraded cultural experiences and interactivity. Various historical sites and cultural spaces offered traditional art performances, promotions of handicraft villages, and intangible cultural heritage displays, while also incorporating technological elements to create innovative products: the "Flag Platform Memory" 3D mapping performance at the Thang Long Royal Citadel, the "Digital Heritage Space" model at the Ku Lo Temple Fair, and nighttime tourism products, effectively improving service quality and extending tourists' stay. Key attractions saw outstanding visitor numbers, with the Confucius Temple-Imperial College, Huong Tac Temple, and Thang Long Royal Citadel receiving 119,000, 76,000, and 49,000 visitors respectively.
The robust growth in the tourism market is attributed to multiple factors: Hanoi city and the tourism industry's early and meticulous planning and precise guidance; tourism products deeply integrating heritage value with the capital's cultural characteristics, resulting in a continuously optimized experience; the widespread application of digital technology in temple fair organization, ticketing services, and supervision, enhancing travel convenience; and a safe and civilized tourism environment, along with efficient promotional efforts, further solidifying tourist confidence.
